Traceroute

Traces the network path hop by hop to a public destination, showing each intermediate hop and its response time when it responds.

How to read the hops

Each line represents an intermediate router. Hops marked "no response" do not always mean a problem: some routers simply do not reply to this kind of probe by policy.

When it is useful

Useful to see whether slowness happens near the origin, at an intermediate transit provider, or right before reaching the destination.

Why does it stop before reaching the destination?

Some intermediate routers or firewalls drop the packet type used by traceroute without replying, cutting the visible trace short.

What is the maximum number of hops?

Up to 15 hops, with one attempt and a one-second timeout per hop.
